Granite Facts

General Colors Edges Fabrication

1) Granite is less absorbent than some other solid surfaces. Granite is commonly used as building material for high-rise buildings due to its ability to withstand strong gales of wind and rain.

2) Granite is resistant to stains. Any liquid spilled on a granite top if wiped within a few minutes will not stain. Even water can soak into a granite counter top if left for a long time and leave a dark spot. However, it will evaporate when it dries out. Liquids that do not evaporate, such as oils will cause a stain if allowed to soak into the stone.

3) Most stains can be removed using a poultice or paste that will draw it out of the stone.

4) Granite will retain its polish over the years.

5) Regular cleaning with a mild non abrasive household cleaner is all that is required. Once a year we recommend resealing the granite. This process can usually be done in less time then it takes to remove stains and scratches from other solid surfaces.

6) Granite is heat resistant. Heat from hot pots or pans will not damage your granite. Heat from anything short of a blowtorch will not damage the granite. Impact from extremely heavy objects may chip the granite. For example a hammer or sledge hammer will cause chipping if slammed against the surface.

7) Dark color Granite is not stronger then light color granite. Granite is made up of a variety of minerals. The hardest mineral in granite is quartz which is some what translucent and white to gray in color.

8) Granite and marble are very different. Other than the fact that they are both natural stones that can be polished they are created differently. Marble is formed from oceanic deposits and then compressed under pressure, it is a calcious stone. On the other hand granite is essentially molten magma which is cooled and hardened below the earths surface. It is igneous.

9) Granite is competitively priced when you compare it to other high end surfaces. Granites value in unmatched when you take its natural beauty into account.

10) Because granite slab has a no grout lines it is less likely to harbor bacteria then tile or porous surfaces.
