In order to create a custom countertop for your home or project, the following steps will need to be followed after choosing and contracting your cabinetry. It is very important to select your fabricator at this point so he can advise you of all the do's and don'ts of stone.
1) After you have contracted with Thomas Leitner Stone and Tile, a 50% deposit will need to be received.
2) You will need to choose your stone. The material you choose should be personally picked by you. Often times granite or marble with the same name can look completely different. It might come from different quarries or from the same quarry but from different sections of stone. We will pick up your stone if it is not in our slab yard.
3) The next step will be the actual measuring or templating of your project. After all cabinets have been installed and the sinks are present the process can begin. We will need to take your sink or a template of the sink at this time. The sinks will need to be present before we start cutting. (We have priced your project according to your measurements. Should the measurements change the price will adjust accordingly.) The installation of natural stone does not include the removal of old tops unless it has been otherwise arranged or re leveling and adjustments of old cabinets. If this is needed, a time and material charge can be negotiated.
4) The fabrication is now ready to begin. Your slab is then moved to the saw where it is laid out so all your movement is going the same way and matches up; this includes countertops as well as splashes. We also try to utilize your slab so there is very little waste. Once that is done the slab is ready to be cut.
5) The slab then moves to yet another table where the aprons are glued on.
6) After the aprons are glued on it is then moved to another table where we start shaping the edge. Sometimes this can be done with a machine. Most times this is done by hand. It all depends on the edge detail and whether it has a radius or not.
7) After the edge detail are done, the sink holes are cut out and polished. The job is then sealed with a industrial sealer.
8) The piece is now ready to be installed in your home where you will have removed everything from your cabinets.
